Toombs County has award-winning educational facilities with high academic standards. From K-12 through earning a postsecondary degree, local students obtain a quality education.

Toombs County has two public schools systems, Toombs County Schools and Vidalia City Schools, and two private school systems, Robert Toombs Christian Academy and Vidalia Heritage Academy.In addition, Southeastern Early College and Career Academy (SECCA), a career academy partnership between the Vidalia City Schools, Toombs County Schools, Montgomery County Schools, Treutlen County Schools and Southeastern Technical College (STC) is located in Toombs County and houses programs and learning labs that encourage high school students to re-discover the relevance of the education process.

Toombs County is also home to one of Georgia's technical and career colleges, Southeastern Technical College (STC), supplying graduates that meet business needs in a variety of curriculums including business technology, industrial technology and health sciences. STC’s Economic Development Center (EDC) promotes and supports the mission of STC through community-based extension and outreach services. The EDC offers training programs and consulting services to businesses and entrepreneurial start-ups. Combined with the nationally recognized Quick Start Program, a component of the Technical College System of Georgia and the state's Intellectual Capital Partnership Program (ICAPP) through the University System of Georgia, Toombs County is poised to supply the workforce for any business positioning itself in the new global economy.

Other opportunities for attaining higher education include Brewton-Parker College, Mount Vernon; East Georgia State College, Swainsboro; Georgia Southern University, Statesboro; Ogeechee Technical College, Statesboro; and South Georgia State College, Douglas.
